Hi everyone, My Z3 needs shoes and cables. Intending to do the job myself I bought the parts, nothing special, Delphi shoes, QH cables + the kits. With an MOT approaching I decided to give the guys at BMW Motor Works, Stockport a ring and ask for a price.....I decided to do it myself! Gareth volunteered that the shoes should only ever be replaced with Jurid or BMW originals (made by Jurid). His reason was that all other brands glaze over very quickly and give very poor results. So I'm wondering what member's experience of the different brands has been. Incidentally Jurid have stopped producing them. I'm going to ask the local stealer for a price. I've done a few other models with the same set up without trouble but I do trust their experience and he wasn't trying to sell me anything.

As long as you stick to quality suppliers there shouldn't be a problem.

I had brake components from ATE, Jurid, Textar, Ferrodo, FTE and TRW over the years and never had any problems (many of them are OEM suppliers).

The only thing I noticed is that some aftermarket cables needed some grinding at one end as they were slightly larger in diameter and wouldn't fit properly.

Here's a picture, left one is aftermarket (white piece is too thick), right one is BMW.20210710_133702.jpg

Hi @DomiMik thanks for your help and tip abut the ferrules, I've now found out that due to Jurid no longer supplying them, BMW give the same answer with no substitutes. I've decided to go with ATE 🤞Thanks again, Chris

Most BMW calipers are cast with the Ate logo so that's tells me all I need to know.

Ate are a good quality brand as Tony has said and are fitted as OE on a good number of the better quality car brands out there.

Thank you, my take on it after my chat with the guys at Salford is that when these shoes were originally designed for the Z1 BMW gave Durid a spec for the lining material, not too hard? I don't believe that any of the other manufacturers that weren't supplying shoes as an OEM would be making them to that spec. They are probably using just a generic lining spec but as you say ATE is probably the best bet. Thanks again
