First time I have had the bonnet up and the ignition on prior to the turn that starts the engine I.e all the instrument lights are lit.
Quite loud what I can only describe as an “electrical” sound.
What am I hearing?
Stops when the engine starts.
Thank you

An easy way to find out is just unplug the 2 wire connector.
A thickish brown/yellow wire IIRC. If the noise persists, it ain't that. I
The pump should cut off after only 30 seconds or so after engine starts.
Can you record/film it and post on YouTube?

Tony.

That looks and sounds as though it could be the Disa valve. Try unplugging the electrical connection when the ignition is on.

Thank you.
What can I expect if I unplug it?
If it is failing does it usually buzz electrically?
Is it okay to keep driving.
If I put the code reader on will it show up?
What amI looking at getting to replace it?
Once again thanks.

Just above the disa you can see a pipe running horizontally, the connector next to that is also known to buzz, its the fuel vapour retrun line solenoid. Unplug that and see if it goes quiet.

Get a long screwdriver and use it as a stethoscope. Hold the tip onto an object and place your ear to the handle, check anything you can reach.

Only other thing i can think of is the throttle body. That has a motor on the side.
It is one of those sounds that resonates. There is a lot of plastic around that area and it sometimes sounds like it is coming from inside the engine adjacent to the DISA. What are the implications of the throttle

it is booked into a local specialist to see if they can track it down before the inevitable costly fix 😕
