Took 3 friends to Gatwick Airport in the early hours this morning, and found out you now have to pay to drop passengers off in the drop off zone…….

All done by number plate recognition and online payments …. And £100 fine if you dont pay up!!!

Same at Heathrow. Short stay parking rates are also crazy.

Manc has been doing this for a while. They’re just trying to recoup pandemic losses , and guess what? , drivers are an easy target.

I hate it. And dont go over the 10 mins (or whatever it is) cos then its more.

At Manc I do now drop off, but collect I just go in to the short stay. It'll be cheaper than the fine or the overstay. Counterintuitive I know . . .

Didn't know it was the same at East Midlands. When we were there in March there was no charge up to so many minutes, can't remember how many, but just a quick drop off time.

Same at Bristol “International “ airport, used to be free the first 10 minutes, has increased to £5.00 over a couple of years, they even had the cheek to admit the charges were to recoup losses!
Problem is the surrounding areas are littered with badly parked vehicles waiting for friends and relatives to avoid the charges…….just an accident waiting to happen.

But in these cases the cost of using/running the airport is being put onto the people using the airport. If the airports are making large profits them complaints can be justified. I consider this a lot fairer than the Wales system , I live in North Wales our local airports being Liverpool or Manchester. But my tax is still used to pay for an airport run by Welsh Labour to accommodate the people in Cardiff area. I am not asked to contribute to Manchester or Liverpool unless I choose to use them.

If they’re anything like Bristol City council they shouldn’t be involved in the running of any business, they thought they’d get involved in energy supply but ended up going to the wall…….the money lost could have given every council tax payer approx £500.

I understand they did this as a ""subcontract""(Sorry I can not think of correct terms) from the Nottingham scheme. Their ratepayers lost even more. Manchester council have had a lot of "profit" out of being involved in Airports over the years. They charge people who use the airports.

They charge people just for thinking about using them.

Southampton airport, went to picked the wife up to find the flight was delayed by 30 mins, that turned out to be 45 mins,
So decided to park in the multi-storey so l could go into the terminal for a coffee, would like to point out not one cafe was open at 7.45pm
So no coffee or snacks oh vending machine for snacks was broken as well, the cost for the carpark £18 pounds now that’s a bargain =))
Oh one nice touch was a sign saying, We Welcome Ukrainian Refugees  but you can’t have anything to eat or drink nice touch really.
Rant over

Heard about tis the other week as dicussing it with mate who had dropped his wife off at Leeds and had to pay.
Its scandelous really as you have to get there somehow -and car drivers are an easy target. Plus many folks now dont want to use their onsite car parks for some reason

Collecting my daughter from airport I normally park away from airport , check on phone to see arrival details then drive in at last minute , just got caught out once when overnight from States arrived 1 hour early and got a phone shout
