Nice, I replaced mine a few years ago as well, the wood grain original BMW knob fell apart, the plastic mount just snapped. I bought something similar to yours at a local auto store and although perhaps not as high quality I am very happy with it. Only issue is I live in Phoenix, Az and in the summer need a rag to work it while it cools down. Sometimes I take a wet paper towel with me to help it along.
As for polishing, the human hand does a nice job of embedding cellulose in mine, a little aluminum polish does a nice job of cleaning it off every once in a while.
