I had a run earlier this week which was so much fun I thought I would share it with everyone. If I’d had the time, I would have turned around and done it all again in reverse.
Starting in Port Talbot, I took the A4107 up the Afan Valley and into the hills until it joins the A4061. This drops down into the Rhondda valley at Treorchy. Turning up the valley to Treherbert you then follow the Rhigos mountain road (known as the Bwlch I believe) over to Hirwaun. It’s 30 miles, took about 50 minutes and is a mix of windy open road with no speed limit and slower sections which are fine because the scenery is awesome.
The picture below is from the junction of the A4107 and the A4061, looking down on Treorchy and the Rhondda valley. If you have the chance to drive through the Welsh hills one day, then do it.
