So this article isn't about what I thought it would be about.

Credit it to them, villagers are looking to cure a problem by installing their own speed limit signs on private land adjacent a public road. Obviously the limit cant be enforced. But can they get in to trouble for this in any way ?

Since its private land not on the highway or on a structure / tree on the highway then it appears they can...

You see copious signs telling you to slow down for ducks, horses, children, pets etc..as long as they are not on the higway its fine..

In this case, it does seem, given the 20 mph blanket ban elsewhere why this wasn't placarded at say 50mph?

That's what tends to happen at similar school locations here where there is a rural school..

At least there is then a subtle hint..

Someone at a house coming into our village constructed a dummy speed camera a few years ago and they were made to remove it even though it did cause traffic to slow down to the 30 limit.

Remember THIS quite funny!

Villagers use hair dryers as pretend SPEED CAMERAS to scare motorists into slowing down
