Had the spare wheel off today and was suprised to see this valve attachment which is obviously designed to allow inflation in situ - never had that on the previous 2.8 which was a 1999 MY.

Either way it still amazes me that BMW manged to fit a full tool box and space saver spare in the Z3 and in the E85 or E89 you don't even get a jack let alone a wheel brace or spare wheel 🤔

The photos just illustrate the fact that most Z3 s are carrying around a useless spare wheel. Nowhere to put the punctured road wheel and the rusty spacesaver probably has a flat out of date perished tyre.

Only if you don't check it regularly and if you carry a cloth and some luggage straps, you can strap the punctured wheel on th boot lid.

I think you are missing my point - both of them in fact

Gary had it possibly been removed on the 2.8 as I just went out and had a look both our zeds have this face-lift and pre face-lift.
Stephen.

Must have been as it definitely wasn't there when I previously removed and replaced the space saver on the 2.8 - I just assumed it was a post face-lift adaptation but based on your experience clean not

My car has everything removed but Ann-Maries blue one has the space saver and the external filler like this. It's a prefacelift 2.8.

The space saver did come in handy last year when she lost the whole inner sidewall. Tied the original in the back with some string and made it into town.

On keep on your passengers seat for 2 days maybe Mike :whistle:=))

That was two different wheels on consecutive days. It was after that that I worked out the cloth and straps idea. I keep a microfibre towel and a set of Thule luggage straps in the boot. I also at least once a year take out the spare and clean up and treat any rust and thoroughly examine it.

Unfortunately most owners do not seem to be as thorough as you Mike, although I would expect most Zroadster members to be on the ball.Like most new cars , as was pointed out by @RickyBobby, the Z4 doesn't have a spare wheel etc, but I carry a jack and wheelbrace in mine together with the temporary repair kit.Ok it won't fix a sidewall problem, but in the event of a major problem it's good to have breakdown cover.

But BMW did think of everything! The tool kit included a nice white ‘bin bag’ to put the punctured wheel in - to keep your passenger’s clothes clean when it’s on their lap. Only German logic could think like that, don’t think the German language includes things like ‘hissy fit’😂 I Still have my (unused) white bag….

Yes@GZed, I couldn't possibly write on here what my wife would say if I plonked a great big wheel on her lap, even if it was clean and in a bag.o_O:oops:
