Weird Seat Behaviour!?

Hi there, I’ve just successfully replaced the seat bushes on the driver-side of my 2000 Z3 1.8. However, now I’ve plugged the seat back in to the wiring loom, it seems the switch that controls the forward and backward travel is working in reverse! So when I push the button forward the seat goes backwards and vice versa!! This is now opposite to the passenger side. As far as I can tell the electrical connecting plug only fits one way, I’ve tried reversing it. Has anyone got any idea what’s going on?!

Had the exact same thing happened to me when i had my Z3, couldn't find what was wrong but as you say weird. Never cured sold seats with declared issue. Last i heard new owner of the seats hadn't found a cure. Sorry no help will be interesting to find out if you get a solution.

Thanks Paul... I’m now doubting myself and wondering if they’re all like it? Is it definitely forward to move the seat forward normally?

Yep that's how it should be forward for forward on both. I put it down to putting the worm housing in back to front but would have had to do both sides the same. As i was the only driver of the car didn't bother me, although it was funny confusing the tester come MOT time.

Hmmm. Thanks. Now you’ve got me wondering... I wonder if I’ve put it back together wrong? Can’t get my head round how that would create the result I’ve got though!

Sounds like the positive and negative are connected the wrong way around on a connector before the motor

Completed the replacement of the bushes on my seats today. I suspect you have exchanged the RH and LH threaded unit to opposite sides of seat base, the motor will rotate correctly but the thread will be opposite, hence strange behaviour.

Thanks for that... I think you’re right! I remembered afterwards the threads are opposite to each other. Will switch them back at the next opportunity!! Appreciate the reply.
