Good afternoon guys ,, just a bit of a query regarding steering feedback — my 2005 E85 2.5 seems absolutely fine on the windy , twisty roads but get it on the motorway and it’s like you’re wrestling a gremlin - constantly adjusting to get it to go in a straight line - just had new wheels and tyres installed as I thought it might be the old tyres but no it’s still doing it - have any of you guys got any advice before I splash out on a new ps motor — many thanks in advance 👍

Have you had the tracking checked?

I haven’t John although I would’ve thought if it was out it would’ve knocked the previous tyres out on the inner or outer shoulder - I will have it 4 wheel aligned over the weekend and see if that is the issue though

Highly likely to be lollipop bushes, worn standard bushes cause the car to wander when trying to go in a straight line.
Best replaced with the solid M3 style, almost same price and make a vast improvement.
If you do want to stick with standard pm me an address, I just came across a set yesterday, my lad and I will never use them, he uses poly and I have M3.

Thank you - would these be something that is visibly worn as it’s in for its MOT tomorrow afternoon and want to get this annoying niggle sorted so that I can continue to enjoy the car

Sorry, my phones tiny, I just noticed it’s an e85, not a Z3. The bushes on the Z4 are more robus,t and the attachment shorter, but they can still cause wandering steering if getting a little worn. Not often a mot fail though, unless really bad. Def worth checking imo.

On my E85 I replaced the originals with Poly bushes. The old ones were shot but the difference was unbelievable.

Thanks Tony , il have a look over the weekend but I’m pretty sure (before my ownership) it had all new bushes and bottom arms etc - was wondering if it was the electric power steering motor that was on the way out — I’ve just put some brand new wheels and tyres on so I had a good look and poke around whilst it was up in the air but couldn’t see anything obvious

Thanks again Tony , il have a look at that — hopefully see you at one or two of the shows this year 👍
Yes, I hope to get to some events this year Andy. We missed most that we usually get to through being in Florida to sell our villa last year.

Tony.
