Water pump

I ask on the site the other day on water problems because my car heater did not seem to work very well and my temperature gauge fluctuated between first mark and and middle one ( upright ). So I've now got into this today it took me ages to remove the the water pump it had broken up in the engine. It came out leaving part of the casting in the block and the impeller. I had to put a long bolt through the impeller shaft hole to stop it dropping down inside water jacket while I broke out rest of casting. I've now cleaned up the hole with emery cloth ready for new pump.
The thermostat was not a lot better and the muck I've washed out the system was disgusting. I'm now refitting tomorrow.

Looks like you got incredibly lucky! Everyone who hasn't changed theirs, or know when it was last changed should have this on their to do list...

I think some one had tried to do something on it before but gave up when they couldn't get fan and hub off judging by how chewed up this was but all is getting replaced including hoses clips and belt. Fingers crossed it will sort out heater problem as only other thing I can think of is the heater matrix not working.
