Having to use Z3 everyday which means a lot of Autobahn driving. Have to use a wash Straße as it is not allowed to wash on the street here. Plus I suppose it gets washed off underneath as well

No, big felt like strips that jiggle across the car no rotation. Plus jet streams.
Shock horror, but my paintwork is crap anyway.

Used to hand wash it in the summer though at work on company property.

Against the law, you will receive a fine, its about soap, oil etc going down the rain water drains.
I would never do that to my Zed 
Long gone are the days over here where you see people washing their cars on the street, you just don't see it anymore.
You have to use a car wash facility that recycle the water.
I got away with it by doing it at work on an industrial estate.

FibberI have been known to wash my own Zeds
Move to Dudley, they never heard of soap there 
A mate of mine is into boats, not at sea though.A bit of soap down the drain is no bad thing.
These people, if they have a fuel spill when in the harbor, they chuck washing up liquid on it to disperse it.
Any idea how many boats there are over here?
