Whilst driving home tonight an amber / yellow warning light has come on.. looks like its got an exclamation mark icon on it. The car has had an occasional lumpy idle recently that comes and goes but it was driving fine and temperature gauge was normal what should l do next?

Do you have an auto? If so the auto box warning is an exclamation mark within a toothed cog.
The other one with an exclamation mark inside a triangle with anti-clockwise arrow is the ASC&T - have you pressed the override button by mistake?

Thanks Jonco. . . Yes l have an auto box and yes it's the cog light.. the gearbox is working fine..

It's lit for a reason - suggest you get your codes read and as a precaution get fluid level checked.

Hi Alan, my Z3 does this now and again, so does my Z4. I first noticed this on the Z3 after a very sharp left turn into the garage at work. After re-starting the light was off and no problems at all. If the same applies with your car, I wouldn't be concerned to be honest. With the Z4, the same applies, apart from sometimes I have to clear the codes otherwise the car goes into a "limp home " mode and doesn't run properly. Very rare occurrence, and no lasting issues.

Tony.

Drove car again and the light is now out.. drove normally for about 5 miles then done about another 5 in sport mode and the light didn't come on.. gearbox is still smooth as silk.. will check fluid level later today..

I could almost gaurantee mine would come on after driving into our workshop and turning full left lock to get on a particular ramp. Park it up later, start to go home light is out and would go for months till it happened to come on again.

Tony.
