Vibration damper?

Hi All, I was crawling under the Zed today, looking to change the diff oil, or at least sort out what I need. I looked up & saw a big lump of cast iron suspended on a rubber bush. there is one on each side near the rear bumper mounts. At a guess they must be about a kilo each. the parts list calls them vibration dampers.
now I am trying to lighten the Zed for track stuff, has anyone removed these & had any nasty vibrations?

I recon they have to go.

I have read quite a lot about these and lots have removed them without issue, however, why would BMW go to the cost for no reason, they are mean't to be there for a reason, it makes me laugh when I see some posts about removing weight from the car and then you see a pic of the 20 stone driver

There are lots of these so called "vibration dampers" on cars these days, especially on diesels. You can remove them but eventually there will be consequences otherwise they would not be there in the first place.

I would agree with Tony on this one bmw obviously added them to remedy some issue otherwise they wouldn't be needed.
As also said see them a lot on new cars especially on exhausts.
If you are under a running car with on e on the exhaust and look at it they sit vibrating and the exhaust doesn't if you grab it and hold it steady to the exhaust the whole section of the exhaust starts to vibrate..
So they definitely have a purpose.
Also they are quite heavy so I would imagine that especially on the 4 pots ( the 6 a bit nose heavy) they contribute to the 50/50 weight distribution.
