Not done any mods like this before myself, but was considering using sock filters on my bike. I was advised away from that solution as they have been known to get sucked into the motor through the throttle body. Now this may only relate to my 1000cc V Twin KTM but still worth considering.

The sound is immense! But I wouldn't do it if the car was a daily.

What are you trying to achieve?

You have to decide what engine speed you want to optimise your engine for.

I've looked into optimising the S50 and by my calculations the tubes are currently optimised for 4300rpm. What speed is the S54 optimised for?

What rev-range are you going to try to optimise for?

Ideally, all six cylinders should have balanced air flow and temperature. It would be very difficult to control the temperature of the air going into each throttle body if you run without a plenum. The air going into #1 would be considerably hotter (and less dense) than the air going into #6.

ALL the experts agree that proper air filtration is essential in any engine that is going to be run for more than 200 miles between rebuilds. Don't be tempted to run an engine without proper filtration unless you want to lose all your power to piston ring wear.

Something that I thought about overnight was...

How are you going to monitor the airflow into each throttle throat. Presumably, you have disabled the MAF, but what have you replaced it with?

A very good modification would be to have a MAF for each cylinder, but the ECU would need to be completely re-written and the injectors would need to be individually pulsed. At the moment, Cyl #1, 2 & 3 pulse and Cyl # 4, 5 & 6 pulse, although firing order does almost ensure individual pulsing.
