I am getting the above fault code any ideas the car is driving a bit flat!

Not a great deal of help I'm sorry but if you put your post title into google it comes up with a few results and the consensus seems to be leaking vanos seals or sticking vanos solenoid.
I have no experience of this but you could try contacting Mr Vanos for his advice.

thanks,i did rebuild the vanos system myself about a thousand miles ago
My guess is possibly a seal leak which would lose pressure not allowing the Vanos full travel?

Could be a sticky solenoid. Swap it with the inlet solenoid, clear the fault code and then see if the fault appears on the inlet.
I would also check the movement of the shuttle valve while the solenoid is off.

Right took both solenoids off cleaned them both in my ultra sonic cleaner
Put them both in cleared the fault codes and ........ it only bloody worked back to its normal self ! Happy days

On the M sometimes the soldering breaks to the little chip board. Not sure if it's the same on non Ms
