Nice work Jim. Hope you are keeping well?

I like this Jim. Our Gary got his new Crafter in September so he will be following similar path.

Tony.

If it's still registered as a van, you may want to consider contacting DVLA and getting them to change it to a motor caravan. It can be quite advantageous ;) . VED = £270 irrespective of emissions. It may increase your insurance, though.

Have done a view of these in the 1990 s used either Fiat ivecos or mercedes 609s our son did schoolboy MX had great fun doing them and even more fun using them

This is being done in the spring (Hopefully) Insured as a campervan, insurance company were good about it, saying because of the backlog with DVLA they would insure as campervan even without the re classification and have given me 18 months to re classify it, rules regarding campervans are a bit hit or miss at the moment with DVLA, I am just waiting for re spray of van in the spring to enable the graphics to go on, and I need to fit an awning rail (Fitting Sun Canopy with awning rail), it then meets all the criteria required! but a lot of builds failing to make it as a campervan even though the required criteria was met , no explanation from DVLA, they just re classify as a van with windows?????

I dont know if this helps when we did ours one of the stipulations was that it had to have a wardrobe fitted with a hanging rail, had to have windows , sink and cooking facilities and you had to present it to your local DVLA office for inspection

Hi Dave thanks, currently there are a few things more now, it must have graphics on the van to show its a campervan, apparently this is to assist the police in identifying it as a campervan! it also has to have two opening windows on one side of the van drivers door not included, it must have a fixed table which can be removable when required, the bed must be 6 foot long and fixed to the floor or side wall but can be a retractable construction, and it must have an awning rail on one side of the vehicle. It does not require an inspection by the DVLA or a change in the current MOT which still remains valid after re classification. You need to provide photographs of each of the requirements that are stipulated. But they keep changing the requirements to suit?

Mine meets every stipulation (and more) except for the graphics and the awning rail, so once this is done it should? be accepted and re classified. Unless they are having a bad day!
