Right, then...

After weeks of waiting and scheming I got the Z3 home from my in-laws. She looks good wet, but the paint needs some attention from a clay bar and a buffer. She’s throwing a lot of codes mainly:
  • 2D Multifunction steering wheel monitoring interface (clock spring? There’s also an ABS light and I think they may be related)
  • Fuel trim bank errors (P0170 and 0173)
  • Cylinder misfire (P0301, 0302 and 0303)
The lower intake duct seems to be somewhat biodegradable based on its condition, which I understand is causing the fuel trim errors. Could it also cause the misfire errors as well? Or am I looking at injector replacement?

Sorting all this is just so I can get the smog check (cannot have CEL light on for smog, otherwise automatic fail in CA). Then there’s the rest: cooling system, tires (ye gods, the tires), fluids change. The rear window is...brown, which is only an issue with the top up. Oh, and the window switches push through the console when I try to raise or lower the windows. Then the real important stuff: the stereo only plays out of one speaker and the hood roundel is half bare.

I figure a lot of this occurred due to lack of use the past two years and sitting in the sun. I’m happy with the price and at 64k miles, theres a lot of life left, I think. Looking forward to getting some driving in!

UPDATE: So, I got the lower air intake duct replaced. Pelican said it was a 2 hour job and they were right...mainly due to those damn hose clamps. Anyway, took it for a 15 mile drive as it really hasn't been driven in a while - did pretty good, no CEL, a bit shaky, but I'm attributing that to the near dead tires (the next thing I'm fixing once I get the new license). One thing I noted was that it was just killing gas - it was full when it was at my in-laws, but it got down to 1/2 during the drive - not sure if the gauge was reading high to begin with and then somehow got corrected, or I'm burning a hell of a lot of fuel. Regardless, 6.5 gallons of new fuel and I now she's full. Have to bring her back to the smog station as I guess I cleared out all of the air injection system cycling codes, and they need a couple more cold starts before CA will accept the test. So, now we wait.
