A few of the uk mainland ones been used different types of stunning scenery in all of them .
I have done a few bits of the nc 500 over various parts of various Scottish runs i find ( and i would imagine @andyglym ) is the same ) that the biggest problem now is these weekends that we do have become very popular but the places we want to go ( especially for me as you head into northern Scotland) dictate that you just cannot do a large group as logistics get more and more difficult with everything from the types of road you are on to group hotel and lunch stop etc even with 6 cars you could be turning up with 12 people this definitely becomes the most prohibitive parts of the proper rural parts of Scotland at least.
At the moment I am currently working on 2 Scottish runs
The 2024 spring run i already know what i am doing.
I am working on the 2024 and 2025 Autumn Scottish Runs
I dont usually do 2 years ahead but the 2025 is going to be up and around Skye so even for me advance planning for recce etc needs done as that part of the world still a 5 to 6 hour drive north for me but that will need to be a controlled group size but yeah logistics definitely the biggest problem.

Sorry only came on to say a couple of words ended up waffling away but hey I've wrote it all now so getting posted :):)

Yup, as @Stevo7682 says, logistics is key to any drive out in large groups, it can define the route. As an aside, the Web page states that Windermere is the largest natural Lake in England, it's a Mere not a Lake. The only Lake in the Lake District is Bassenthwaite, the rest are Meres or Waters

Agree with @Stevo7682 and @andyglym re logistics. Having run a few drive outs in the Peak District, trying to fing somewhere for lunch/coffe stops for up to 20 people is very challenging.

When I was a child we'd often go to the lakes. We'd get our kicks on route 66 (A66) and then spend the day by "Lake Windermere". Basically I grew up calling it "Lake Windemere" and I ain't changing now

Your fish pond is a pond.

The word 'mere' comes from the old english/germanic 'meer' which, in modern english, means 'sea' which comes from the old germanic 'see' which, in modern english, mean 'lake'. So that's why you don't see mermaids (mere-maids) nowadays. It's coz we're all looking in the wrong place - or they're as confused as I am and they've moved to skegness.

Well, by 2050, Skeggy could be back under the Sea according to the scientists. Along with areas around Doncaster too. So the Mermaids may end up in the Lake next door.

I'm still confused, which is normal for me.😊 So a lake, a mere and a water are the same other than what locals call them, land locked bodies of water. Lochs? When is a lake not a lake? Sea loch? Isn't it an estuary? Who started this @andyglym?😀

Well don't mention Wales, Lake Vrynwy isn't a lake is it?😂 I think there's a dam lurking at one end!

Ken you cant call it a Loch your on the wrong side of the border for that =))

So since we have digressed into waterway facts.

Lake of Monteith is the only Lake in Scotland.
Loch Ness water volume is more than all England and Wales lakes and rivers combined.

Pub stops are relatively easy compared to hotels, especially if it's a different hotel each night. This is what has killed off the Tour of Ireland.

Did you mean Llyn Efrynwy? The one with a dam at the end so that the Ingerlish can suck on some luvverly Welsh water, on account of there aren't any convenient valleys in Ingerland to block off? Cofiwch Dryweryn, as they say round here.

Still some good roads across Wales despite the 20mph limit in towns and villages, Mid Wales centred on Brecon whichever way you go you find some good Z roads. Good run is up to Builth Wells then onwards to the Elan Valley reservoirs.

If you want a Welsh run then this is an excellent one, we've done it quite a few times solo and with Zedder friends, it misses Elan Valley reservoirs and skirts across the top of it to Devils bridge, but Elan can be included by following the signs from Rhayader, you can download the route for satnav from my MyRoutes Page using the link.

I did a weekend trip similar to this in December last year and it was amazing. Stayed in Llandrindod Wells on the Saturday night. The Black Mountain pass and Elan Valley are great for photos, but most of the main routes were fantastic driving roads. What was most impressive was the quality of the road surfaces.
