I am the new owner of a 1999 z3 2.8l

I am hoping to do some spirited driving so would like some guidance on the reccomened sporty tyre that maintains a good balance of grip vs wear

Thanks Chris

Sounds good, thank you

Do you buy them straight from Michelin?
I got a set of PS5’s recently from ATS. There is a deal on Michelin at the moment. I highly recommend the tyre and ATS in Godalming.

It turns out I have 16 inch wheels which means I can only get PS4’s but they are £170 per tyre which seems a bit much. Any ideas would be appreciated.

When I bought mine it had a mix of pure crap under the car. Changed to Goodyear F1s at the time that were highly recommended. Drove much better but never liked them. When pushed they broke free and went from good instant ice skate.

I'm running 18 inch wheels and a mix of pilot sport 4 and 5s front to rear. Don't remember but it was what I could get at the time at a reasonable cost. So much nicer then the F1s.

If you have a 2.8 on 16 inch wheels you won't see a difference at all between the PS4 or 5. Buy what you can and enjoy.

I have been using Falken FK-452 etc for about twenty years, and have nothng but praise for them, in terms of dry/wet grip, life, noise, and value. A friend who regularly drives his M Coupe at the Nurburgring is also a long-term Falken fan. Incidentally, Falken own Dunlop. I was unimpressed by the original Pilot Sports, although many owners think they are wonderful! I remember when Goodyear F1 were the 'in' tyre, but it depends on what you feel. A lot of people seem to imagine that the Pilot Sport was the only original Z3 tyre, but BMW fitted a mixture of Michelin, Continental, Pirelli, and Dunlop.

Interesting, My Z was on it's original Dunlop tyres when I bought it 16 years ago and I was so pleased with them that I have alway stayed with them. A few replacements in 155,000 miles but stil quite happy.

I recently put 4 x PS4’s on my 16” wheels. Shopped around and the best price was £700 all in.

It seems that plenty of people own Dunlop these days. Globalism, eh?
And from your very own link, you will have read:
" The brand is operated by Goodyear in North America (passenger car & light truck), Europe, Australia and New Zealand."

They suit me fine, I was looking for originality rather than performance. They were recommended by Lee who has worked on my car at the Zed Shed…….look great on the car
