It is the daily mail, after all. And the only reason the mk3 escrot is going up in value is because there are only three of them left. Just for context, my next door neighbour has a Metro. Out of choice.
My sister had a metro and on her first day of driving pulled out of a junction to quick and sped across to next road and smashed into the curb on opposite road. I never forget seeing it with both passenger wheels buckled and it half in the air at an an angle. Everyone was fine AND the car lived for another day after a repair..hardy things them

And for some more context, I've had two Metrots in the past, they could have been good cars but it seems that BL/Rover/whoever wasn't interested in development and improvements, just kept turning out the same thing year in year out. Any motorway journey was a lesson in misery, not far off some Soviet-era cars I've encountered in the past.

It’s like when the changed the old Princess into the Ambassador by adding a tailgate. Totally improved the car, but, as usual years behind the competition.

Was about to post the same article. Maybe come summer the prices will rocket but I’ll keep mine but nice to see it on a list.

The black Escort in that article is a mkIV not a mkIII. The red one is a mkIII.
Had a mkIII XR3i and an mkIII RS Turbo escort back in the day. They were great cars, although the XR was actually more fun to drive as the RS had massive torque steer.
First car I drove after my test was my mum's 1983 Metro. I swear they had rubber gearboxes.

Quite fancy a Citroen CX, TBH. Drove a GTi one around a circuit 35 years ago, it was great fun considering!

Unfortunately what I spent on mine went up by about the same % :)

That CX looks classy
