Had to change trailing arm bushes in Ann-Maries blue car and it was a nightmare.

One of the poly bushes was worn so I replaced them with standard rubber ones. They were Febi brand and not sure if that matters.

When pressing them in they kept picking up on the second large round bit in the body. The first half would go in fine but the second one kept bulging out and I ended up tearing one.

Tried silicone grease, grease, soap and a combination of the three.

Anyone else had this issue or have a recommendation?

Never had this issue, I cover them in grease and use a vice to squash them in. Do you have a photo to hand ?

BMW reccommend Surgical Spirit for jobs such as this, which is alcohol diluted 10% with olive oil, which is kind to rubber. It worked very well on my rear anti-roll bar bushes.

Never heard of surgical spirt or even know where to get it.

Ended up tearing two bushes. No idea why I had so much trouble. Usually molykote M55 silicone grease works a treat. Thought about warming them in the house as it was cold just to soften them up.

Ended up with a mix of grease and dish soap.

You can see one is torn quit a bit on the second bulge. The lower one just started to tear.

May be a daft question, but, do they only go in from one direction? You can buy Surgical Spirit from any decent Pharmacy.

They only go one way an have a larger end that sits one the outside of the trailing arm

Thank you, I wasn't sure as I've never changed them. Done plenty of rubber bushes on other makes over the years.
