The rear ends out ,started cleaning and sorting all the parts and discovered small holes in the rear arms, has anyone made repairs seeing as there are no new ones (couldn’t afford them if there were), and all the used ones are going to be in a similar condition? Take a look please

Looking preety scaley but once bead blasted you should be able to judge what thickness is left and if welding repair patches in will be doable. Probably best to see what a proffessional welder thinks once they are cleaned up. I did read somewhere that when new they were treated to some oil being injected to them, if you get them fixed I would certainly pump some Clear Waxoyle in there to prolong their future. You will need ahole drilled in them to do that and a plug to seal the hole up after.

I don't think a welder would want to touch that, it will be thin in so many places it will keep burning through. It also looks like there might be a few more holes lurking to the left.

We have saved a few arms in this condition, we get them grit blasted then then zinc coated, it's during this zinc coating they can patch these holes up. Then powder coat them to a colour of you're choosing, squirt some oil inside and re seal the arm.

Thanks, they look worse in the pics , apart from those holes they sound really solid, just wondering what others are doing to overcome what I’d imagine is fairly common on a car this age.

How does the process work Lee? Does the zinc stabilise the metal to enable it to be welded or something else?

Lee has a lot of experience with these arms I would go with his reccomendations, ideal would be have a look at them and advise accordingly. Quick trip up the M4 to get to him.

I've got a pair of reconditioned arms with new wheels bearings and bushes.

PM me if interested.

Hello

Not sure on the repairs but there is the refurb option. As the guys have said before, a media blaster to clean them up might put some more holes in the arms.

I gathered parts for a rear end refurb last year and found a set arms, back plates, brakes and subframe chassis plates for £275 to my door. As well as a subframe for £60. They were in v good condition and could have went on the car as is but still has them stripped and powdercoated with other bits for £110.

I dare not post a picture of the parts all lined up and ready to go on. You might get tempted to do a full refurb.

Cheers guys I’m doing a rear end refurb while my wife’s unable to drive ,but as with anything of this nature it’s a can of worms once you start!
Was hoping to keep the original parts but that’s looking less likely atm. Had a beam off Lee that’s been powder coated but the original looks to be in good shape, just the holes in the trailing arms. I know a great fabricator here in Bristol but hes more of a bike man , hates it when I turn up with rusty car parts😂
