How much have people spent on their Zeds? Not counting maintenance, MOT, servicing or insurance. Somebody at work asked me, I suddenly realised I have spent close to £5k excluding the cost of the car

Hi Ash,
I always set out with the good intention of keeping a record of whatever I've spent. I never seem to achieve this and kid myself I haven't really spent that much.
I bought a neglected Z3 (1.9L) with beautifully white creamy oil..... Nievely I thought the head gasket had gone but no.... the head was pitted between one cylinder and the waterjacket. I bought a second hand engine on ebay for £36....as this was much cheaper than a reconditioned head.
I had tramlining with the 17inch wheels and bought 2 sets of identical 16inch wheels. Each set had 2 excellent tyres plus 2 part worn. Cost £60 per set.
By using eBay, my pension has enabled me to play with what is now a lovely car.

Which just goes to show it is possible to have fun running a Z on a budget. Provided you can D.I.Y. and don't mind getting your hands dirty. Well done Barry, keep it up mate.

It's not gone wrong in the year that I have owned it (admittedly not to many miles driven). Sailed through the MOT a couple of weeks ago, with no issue...

Generally pleased to keep it quite standard so nothing to change really...

Someone I know use to buy tubular tyres for his bike from a local bike shop and tell his wife they cost about a quarter of the real price (eg. Real price £40, wife price £10)... Anyway all way fine until his wife visited the shop to buy him a couple of tyres for Christmas. She said to the shop owner "could I have two of the £10 tyres that Ken buys". Fortunately the owner knew what Ken had been saying to his wife and sold them to her for £20 and Ken had to pay the other £60.

Spent a fortune when i had the Z3 New Brembo Discs and pads, New Wheels x2 Chrome Hoops, Perspex Wind Deflector, Coil Overs then full Bilstein Shocks and Apex Springs, Full Respray, Chrome Tail Light, Remap, Pioneer 7" Head Unit, Colgan Body Bra and a Strutt Brace. Not sure of the cost but a few grand. On the z4 i have only spent around £1700 on 2 sets of wheels and 1x Full Set of Tyres

I'm sure I would fall out of love with my ZED if I was getting anywhere near your total...

With that V8 it makes it a bit of bargain compared what to Coupes and e30 M3's are going for.
I don't think there is anything to compare this to this side of a Weismann or Cobra. Everything else with a v8 and soft top is much bigger.
Probably only the jag XKR comes close in terms size and performance?
