I thought I would do a little write up on my European trip. It was a trip I organized for a group of friends. We ended up with a wide variety of cars with two people in each.

We drove through, if not stayed overnight in, 11 countries.
To list them: France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria, Italy, Monaco, Andorra and Spain. This was over a period of 15 days.

We drove some beautiful roads including the Grand Ballon in France, just South West of Epinal, The Stelvio Pass from Austria into Italy, The Susstenpasse in Switzerland and a few others. The roads leading us into Andorra were great as were the ones in Northern Spain.

We visited the Schlumpf Collection (Bugatti Museum) in Mulhouse, Had an evening meal at a pavement restaurant in a Piazza in Turin, Managed to get onto the roof of the Lingotto (originally the Fiat car factory, as per 'the Italian Job film', Drove the F1 circuit streets in Monaco, Sat and had coffee at the cafe de Paris in Casino Square, and lots more very memorable moments.

All the cars performed perfectly and I was amazed how comfortable we were in the Z, despite all the luggage and the seats seemingly not as padded as some cars. Never once did I get out of the car a feel fatigued. The two MX-5's were bought originally for one of those cross european rally weekends. They only cost about £500 each and were both resprayed and serviced before we went. Neither had a any mechanical issue at all over the 2700 miles. Any way, onto some pictures:

A great holiday when we managed to drive with the roof down for about 90% of the time. The other 10% was mainly due to the incredible heat we had crossing Spain.

To top it off, the ferry crossing from Santander to Portsmouth was 24 hrs of totally calm seas. unheard of. :)

That's a good trip - done a lot of what you list but not all in same trip. The Santander to Portsmouth/Plymouth overnight ferries are a good option to avoid that long haul back up through France if you have overdosed!

It was always in the plan to do the Santander/Portsmouth crossing. To be honest, by the time we got to Bilbao, everyone was happy to get on the boat. The thought of another couple of days on the road, a couple more hotels, Peage tolls, etc was not too appealing. The boat gave everyone a chance to chill out for a few hours.

Great pics that bring back memories of my travels in the 80's down many of those same roads. Thanks for the great pics and writeup! JIM

Great write up, we did France and Andorra last year and this year we did France, Switzerland and Italy. Driving on the lovely roads abroad is great, so anyone thinking of doing it go for it  you will not be disappointed. Just like you @Qplate we had to put the roof up this year in Italy because of the heat, that's a first for us .

Roll on next year, used our Z4 this year, now sold and going back to our Z3 which thankfully we hadn't sold. Much prefer the Z3 :)
