Has anyone got any tips on how to remove these bits without breaking all the clips, like I have already done on one side

No, the clips are crap, as they go brittle.
They are available to buy for a few pence, though. There is a thread on here somewhere about where to get specific BMW clips but I can't find it!

The biggest problem is when the clip doesn't break, but the runner on the sillboard breaks.
The solution is to araldite a clip in the correct place.
Judging the "correct" place is not as easy as you think. Don't break two runners, or you have to be very creative and careful how you reassemble it.
A set of these will help save most of the clips...

Yeah pretty much all the runners broke on one side
