Throttle body?

Have a late 2002 2.2.
Undergoing a body chop so there has been plenty pf dust flying around. I went to drive it off the ramp and it started fine but would only run at tick over. I have had this before with a 2000 2.8 which turned out to be a sticky throttle flap that just needed a tap to loosen it.
I have tapped this one and it moves but does not move when you press the throttle and I was surprised that this one doesn't have a throttle cable. I did have an E46 which had the wireless throttle which had a similar problem and it was the throttle pedal itself which was a common problem but the throttle pedal on the Z3 seems to be a traditional pedal.
Don't think a scanner will work as most of the wiring and intake assembly has been removed. The throttle body itself is in a pig of a position to remove so I thought I would ask before removing it and replacing it with a 2nd hand unit.
Odd that the car has been running fine and has been stored indoors on a ramp for a month should just develop this problem.
Anyone have any bright ideas?

Yes you will have a fly by wire system. Did you remove the wires between the peddle sensor and the throttle body by mistake?

Have bought a replacement throttle body from eBay for £20, hope it does the trick. Absolute pig of a job to get it removed.

I had exactly this happen to my late 2.2 as well. Replaced the throttle body with an eBay sourced one and it did the trick.

Not the throttle body! 2nd hand throttle position sensor ordered. Hope that does the trick.

Pity you couldn't do a fault code scan as that would have told you.

And its not the throttle pedal position sensor either.
Bloody thing, it's been running fine and has been stored inside while the kit is being fitted. Suddenly stopped revving and I presumed it was the throttle body flap but that is free, it didn't open when the throttle was pressed so a second hand throttle body was fitted with no improvement. I have now fitted a 2nd hand throttle position sensor and that hasn't made any difference.
Put the code reader under the bonnet and it came up with PO 340 which is cam inlet sensor so I will try that next, it also came up with PO102 which is the MAF but it doesn't seem to make any difference when unplugged.
OBD port under the dash will not connect, it is a 2002 2.2.

Unless anyone has any other bright ideas?

Change the Cam Sensor for an OEM make, don't skimp on cheap pattern parts you will end up paying twice when the pattern part fails.
If the Cam sensor fails to improve things then turn your attention to the MAF as that will be the most expensive part to replace. As you have a MAF code set it's likely to have issues, you could try cleaning it using MAF cleaner only, do not touch the sensor wire, it will destroy it. Cheaper option for replacement would be a good used working MAF from one of our breakers on here.

So I have now changed the throttle body, throttle pedometer and the camshaft sensor. Bursts into life instantly but still will not rev.

I have been jump starting it as it isn't being used, could jump starting it have spiked something in the ECU?

Can you check what fuel pressure you have, could be a faulty fuel pump, ok at idle but not coping with extra load when demanded.

I would imagine if it was the fuel pump it would splutter when the throttle was pressed, I don't get anything at all, it is as if the throttle is disconnected.

I would still be inclined to check the fuel pressure out just to see what its giving out.

Might be worth changing the fuel filter whilst you are at it, you might find its the original one fitted at the factory like I did when I changed mine.

The car has been sitting inside and started once or twice a week to move it around with no problems at all. The battery was robbed for another car and a weaker replacement fitted. Sometimes it will start on its own, sometimes needs the jumper pack. Then suddenly the throttle problem. If it was the fuel pump or filter I can't see it being an instant problem. More likely electrical problem and I am leaning towards an ECU problem caused by using the battery pack to jumpstart it.
Anyone know of a mobile BMW specialist in the Maidenhead area?

Are you "fly by wire"? If so, the pedometers (think that what hey are called) can partly fail causing engine rev issues.

Just been trawling the web and found out Honda cars with electric throttle by wire suffer same symptoms when a fuse blows or a relay is bad. Not sure it will be applicable to BMW but worth a check of the fuse and relays involved on yours.

pedometer is like those Fitbits which measure how many steps you have done...

first off, check the connection on the throttle body....that big round plug is a pig to line up, twist and secure in place, may have come loose.
Ask me how I know...

Not much use to you, really, but I recently gave up on my generic code reader (too much hassle reading a code and then having to fire up the laptop to find what the code means) and bought one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-BMW-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 It actually tells you what the code means, and has a bit in there that draws a graph of throttle position amongst other things. If you were anywhere near here I'd offer to pop by and have a poke around, but I guess I ain't. It's a handy little tool, and well worth having.
