Thoughts on silicone regarding sound and heat management?

Just to clarify I am not expecting any magic HP gains , I am just wondering if there is any improvement in the sound and/or if it has better heat insulation perhaps....?

Btw I already have the upper boot (towards the MAF) and I can get the lower part (throttle body) for around 40 euro.

Should I do it? Do you have any experience?

Hello

As you can imagine, I am also on the search for some silicone hoses to try and get the Gruppe M intake to fit.

The intake is too large to fit as it stands but with a shorter Throttle Body to MAF hose and some flexi air ducting from MAF to Intake, it could work.

I have been looking at some Mishimoto and Aliexpress hoses listed as OEM# 13541703588 replacement. A lot of these hoses say "ASC delete" which I don't want to lose.

Which lower silicone hose are you looking at?

This one ties into the real oem part number and looks far more likely to fit what i need it for.

EDIT: Have just made purchase of this item.

Hi Stevie, I see you bought it already, how does it fit, did you try it?

Personally, I had bad luck with one silicone intake lower boot. I bought one but struggled a lot to get the smaller part over the idler valve to stay on, and then tried to cut it. So I ended up ruining the lower part. That is why I am now looking for a new one.

But my main thoughts are if it makes a difference to the sound or heat... a friend of mine with a Fiesta ST has silicones and they improve the sound..

Silicone hose still in transit with mid July for delivery. Coming from China.

I would hazard a guess that the silicone might have ability to deliver a bit more air into an engine if its edges are a. Ooth and not baffled like oem part. If so, probably not that much more. Negligible.

Dyno runs for a £40 silicone tube. 😂

When I get it, I'll let you know if it fits.

Thanks a lot! I await to see your fitment 😁

You can also try an intake temperature comparison before an after, that is where I would assume the silicone performs better than OEM.

Btw, I've checked inside the OEM intake boots and they are smooth on the inside so I don't think the silicone would be better in that regard :bookworm:

Not sure you would see much of a temperature difference. The amount of air you are putting through this does not allow much time for heat transfer. Sorting an air intake that brought cold air in from outside would make more of a change then anything.

I see your point, but my assumption was that silicone might be more resistant to heat soaking. To be honest the Z3 facelift intake looks pretty OK taking air from the headlight and I've also opened the secondary port that in the M takes air from the fog light scoops. Mine just takes air from the cover next to the fog light as I don't want to remove my fog lights, but it's something I guess...

Got some plans to do exactly this. My 97 has a stock air intake that scoops through a channel the side of the bonnet grills, the TU seems to have a scoop which enters via the side of the bumper grill instead and there is always an edit to the front fog light blanking plate which could be modded to have cold air being channeled up to the cone filter.

Looking to borrow some bits and hopefully create something that keeps the engine supplied with cool air.

Silicone intake boot delivery is mid July so a bit of time before offering up the carbon hoover.
