How did you come by yours, here is my story. March 2013
My previous car was starting to rust, it was 22 years old and still on its original cam belt (i was dicing with a catastrophic engine failure) coupled with the rusting sills it was time to say a sad farewell to an incredibly reliable car. I had been searching for a replacement for a few weeks (looking at the nissan 350z - 370z) there were a few about but included in the search results would always be the z3 and z4, at first i didn't pay them any attention but then a saw a Montreal blue 2.8 for £2900 (a lot cheaper than the nissans) so i went along to take a half harted look, dont know why but i didn't commit, sometimes there is just something not right, you cant put your finger on it but its there. So back to the search, then i spotted another blue z not that far from me but it was a 1.9, i got thinking about this logically and thought - hey i could save some cash on the purchase and save money on fuel, the nissan would need a pump permanently attached to the rear just to keep it going. There was nothing else at the moment and i had always wanted a convertible ever since i was a kid, so i rang for a viewing. It was very early spring (still a bit chilly) the winter had been really cold and miserable, there had also been two deaths in the family (one kind of expected for a couple of months, cancer, and the other a complete bolt from the blue and should not have happened). I arrived and looked around the car, nothing niggling me this time, then i made a fatal error - i took it out for a drive with the roof down. the early spring sun broke through a cloud and i was sold (i was thinking about the two who were no longer with us) i turned the car around and drove back with a grin like a Cheshire cat, i pumped the sellers hand, gave a bundle of cash and drove it home. wouldn't swap it for anything else now except maybe a brand new one, but they don't make them anymore.
this car is irreplaceable as it was purchased from money i had from one of the family members who had died.

Banging on the door for 50 (March 16) = mid life crisis = 2.8 Z3 Roadster = crisis averted = a million smiles per gallon. Simples =))

Nice story @littlefeller My Z was also acquired as a result of a sad loss, in this case of my dad. I part exed his 118 convertible for it and transferred the plate. Driving it will always remind of him.

Mines similar to @Andy McDonnell. Hit 40 and started looking for an MGB roadster. Couldn't find one for the money I wanted to spend and @jue1 started looking on auto trader and came across the Zeds. We never looked back. :)

Yay, I got mine before 40 :poke:. Could never have afforded my first Z3 without getting divorced which when the family home was sold basically bank rolled the purchase. The philosophy that something good can come out of something bad has inspired me the last 10 years or so.

Similar story, lost my Mum in 2013. Left me a bit of money and as she bought me my first ever car and a few bob burning a hole in my pocket decided on buying a little sportscar. Looked at a few Z's but it was the 1.9 in Montreal blue that sold me. Had two years true enjoyment with many more hopefully to come.
"Thanks Mum":)

Most know it was due to my then 9 now 11 yr old granddaughter that led me to my first zed. But to make life interesting I bought it in Britain and imported it to Canada. The car goes to Trinity, which I also named the car, when she graduates. A 97 1.9 Boston green. Bought for £1550Then this spring I bought another in the UK a 98 1.9 again but black as an experiment for £600 delivered to Egham. Then our $-£ value tanked but it's ready to ship as soon as I clear up a small problem. Both cars are absolutely rust free. JIM
