Our 5 series frightened me yesterday big warning messages on the i drive 'excessive battery discharge' and all I thought I had done is opened the door. I had been sat in the car having lunch so the car had 'gone to sleep' and opening the door 'wakes it up'. Couldn't get the error to go away so after internet research could be battery dying or the battery condition monitoring system or some other expensive trip to Dealers.
One post mentioned after-market items such as tow bars or I pod connectors so I thought could it be the usb charger for my phone so I unplugged it this morning and lo and behold no more error messages.
Just after that the flat tyre monitor went off so got to fix the slow puncture now.

Still the zed keeps going.

I used to like my job, enjoy it even, but I'm sorry to say I really cannot wait until I can walk away from these infernal combustion engine cars. It's really no fun any more. Too much tech on cars nowadays and not just that what about changing headlight bulbs even. NIGHTMARE !!! And when I can walk away there'll still my (relatively) simple Z. Bless.:D

the simpler the better IMO...I heartily agree that there is way to much tech in the modern car..its an inbuilt obsolescence and the manufacturers are doing it on purpose to make more money, I remember as kid people owned their cars until they were no longer drivable, they became part of the family almost!

we now have the same attitude to our cars as we do with our phones and laptops and trade up after 3 years...its crazy really but means there are some used car bargains to be had..

Behaved itself today. 7 years old and got another 3 years to do. It is fairly easy to work on but there is a lot of kit on it. As Joey says bought it 3 tears ago for less then half price new, depreciation is better than most as a % but when they start out so much it is an awful lot of money to loose.

On several occasions, I have heard reports on the tv about how much electric is being used by our electronics at home by not just turning off the component, instead of unplugging it. Apparently, quite a bit of electric is used by adaptors that reduce the current going to our components. While we may turn the component off, the adaptor, which I guess are transformers, are still working using electric. It is recommended to have everything plugged into a power strip that has an off/on switch and turn off this switch when turning off all the components. Perhaps this is what happens with your usb charger. It may continue to use electric as long as the electric is supplied to it. Just a thought. Frankie

That's what they say. I can't argue so it gets switched off here.

Oh for the simple days. I bought a 56 Pontiac and a 68 impala from an old farmer. Brought the cars home, put a battery, cranked it over with 1968 fuel still in the tank just for chuckles and damned if it didn't start on the third try and idled like new after about five min and took it for a drive after 15. Can you say Non- Leaded Gas???

A little story....Many years ago, my best friend's sister was Pres. Clinton's environ. advisor. She had worked for Gore before he was VP. When she got married, the reception was held at Gore's VP mansion which is at the US Naval Observatory. He wasn't there as his mother had had a stroke several days before but was supposed to return to the house later that night. Later in the evening, there was a group of girls performing Irish dancing ( did they call it River Dancing?) on the dance floor. The whole reception was held outdoors under a large tent. While these girls were performing their dance, I slipped over to the buffet table to get some Frenched lamb chops,(I believe this is what they call them) which I absolutely love. While looking over the items on the table, I moved to my left to reach for something and banged into another guy who was standing next to me and was at the same time reaching for something on his right. We really banged our shoulders together and as at the time, I weighed about 250, it was quite an impact. The other guy must have been pretty large as it didn't seem to phase him. I just said: "Oh, sorry" and continued what I was doing. But the next instant, we did the same thing again. This time I looked over at the man to apologize and when I turned to look at him, was surprised to see it was big Al. He very politely stuck out his hand and said: "Hi, I'm Al Gore". He struck me as a very nice guy, with big strong hands. Later, I had my picture taken with him.
