They are Adirondack chairs named for the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. Very comfortable.

I think I would need a cushion before I sit on one though, otherwise I would end up with a ribbed undercarriage!

You would be amazed how good they are to sit on.
They have very similar ones down in the Florida Keys, in the design that is, only their ones are made from wicker. Also very comfortable.

Ikea also have a similar version called a Poang, also very comfortable, especially with foot stool, I always manage to fall asleep in it any way...........
Funny that, the ones down the Keys do that to me too.
