Recently back after a marvellous 19 days touring France. We crossed to Calais on 9th August, toured south through France to its Mediterranean coast, returning north again to cross back from Calais into the UK on 27th August.
First stopover was 2 nights in Rambouillet, south-west of Paris, from which we visited Giverny to spend a day exploring Monet's house, garden and, of course, the lily pool.
View of the 'snaking' River Seine on way to Giverny:
Then further south for 2 nights at Clermont-Ferrand in the Massif Central. We took the eco-friendly electric train to the top of 'Puy de Dome' for stunning views of France's 'volcanic' landscape:
The summit was heavily populated by 'para-gliders':
The 'flock of birds' seen around the volcano in the shot above are all 'para-gliders'.
