Hi,
I am a new member. I have two z3. aone is a 2.8 98 model in black and the other one is a 99 model in silver. I could do with some thought on why my fuel guage does not work on the 99z it is not the guage as i have tried another cluster so it is likely to be the sender itself or wiring. Does anyone know whether the sender is repairable or where to purchase a replacement.
Well Jim, this is the way it is............ Quite a while back, actually when I joined the forum, I posted a pic of my car. Everyone liked it but 'certain' members came back with the reply that my boot rack was on backwards. Other members came to the rescue in my behalf and stated to leave it alone because they thought it was on correctly. Now this has been going on for at least a year and a half. When you posted your pic, I quietly mentioned the fact that you and I both had boot racks. I then secretly, by PM message, contacted another member and said that I didn't think this would get past 'certain' members without their not being able to resist the opportunity to remark about the placement of the rack. As you can see, it didn't take long. While there is an abundance of tech info here, many of us take the time to get into such little things as this. Its a break from the more serious things and we often get into it like there's no tomorrow. There was a time in the past when I wanted to really open this topic up as it actually caused quite a heated but friendly discussion. ( As if we had nothing better to do.) I spent about half a day researching all the companies on the internet who offer boot racks, or luggage racks as we call them on the other side of the pond here. While doing this, I was surprised to see that even the manufactures and suppliers were just about evenly divided on how to mount the rack. If these people couldn't decide on how to attach it, what chance did we have on coming to any agreement? So I let the whole thing drop, and now we just irritate each other about this every chance we get. Actually, it can get to be a lot of fun. We should take a pole on the topic:
1. Those who believe that placing the lip of the rack towards the front of the car in the REMOTE event that you stop suddenly and, not having secured your luggage properly, it slides forward and wacks you.
OR
2.You realize that you are constantly accelerating and the lip on the BACK of the rack, since the rack it tilted TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE CAR, QUITE NATURALLY keeps the luggage from sliding off.
I guess it doesn't take long to figure out which side I'm on!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My advice to you is to just sit back and enjoy the fireworks. Your Fellow Forum Member (from the other side of the Pond), Frankie
