Thought I’d share our experience yesterday.

We had a frightening and sobering day.
Had to call paramedics for a family member several times yesterday for none COVID related problems. The first call went ok. Paramedics arrived, did their checks and thankfully, while concerned, no immediate further action was needed. We didn’t know before but seemingly no serious injuries suffered nor underlying direct cause. However, a second call was needed later.
After 5 hours the ambulance service called back to say that as it wasn’t an immediate threat to life that they simply couldn’t attend despite the possibility again of injury, broken bones or other problems. Only immediate life and death calls are being attended and even that may still take some while.
A little while later a doctor again asked for paramedics again now suspecting a stroke. Despite this call by a doctor the ambulance service still couldn’t attend and had no possibility of attending. Again it was abandoned after 5 hours. We and particularly my sister were left to fend for ourselves overnight.
Thankfully we got through and have had to start the process again this morning.

Please please do nothing that creates any risk to yourselves and others. That I suggest includes no unnecessary driving no matter how you justify yourself. If you have any accident whatsoever you cannot at the moment rely on the ambulance services attending as you would normally expect - they can’t cope with serious medical emergencies as it is. You may just be waiting for hours or days even with serious injuries such as broken bones. This is likely to be the situation for the next two to three weeks. It will be that long before the increasing demand starts to subside.

Stay safe. Stay home. I’m asking not for the government but for the poor souls who are currently fighting a losing battle with COVID and ultimately for yourself. When you see someone you love without any help yourself you will understand. It really is deadly serious!!!

I think the headline was "boris battles scientists save Christmas " ducking clown.
There’s a staggering amount of poor judgment. I know none of this is easy but every step has been submerging us deeper in the mire. The vaccination program really is a race against time, but, it’s a race that could have been started from a far more advantageous place. That said BJ is counting on it being a political success for himself when it is Matt Hancock who is getting all the hard work done. Cabinet papers are going to be an interesting read in 30 years.

Sorry to hear that Ian .
You are right the tipping point is not far away in a number of areas in the country .
I have had to work Mon - Fri since this began and when we had the first lockdown my work was a lot quieter but even the main road outside my work was sparce with traffic now so much busier .
Had to go to work on Saturday morning to do a retest and passed the local retail park b&q etc busy .
The mind boggles do people really need to be there .
Anyway back on track Ian did you finally get to the hospital.

No. We’ve had to get the gp out but the situation seems a little improved today. Could have gone either way.

There is a massive amount of COVID fatigue and also, the words used by government are becoming more pleading than direct and instructional. Things have been allowed to get out of control and short of complete lockdown there’s no way back. Lockdown isn’t going to happen. Just Darwin Award nominations plus collateral damage. There’s going to be millions of infections for months after at-risk people have been vaccinated. Something government seems to accept. All for glory of the vaccinations. That’s a massive risk if another change in the virus comes along - something that is highly likely with high levels of infection. But, of course, government knows this. Russian roulette?

I’ll comment but in the Coronavirus thread.
