EDIT:
In the hope we will be allowed out of the house later this year we fancy a break in the Dales having never been there, I have done some routes but would like some advice on really good routes/places to visit.

Hi Nial

I'm more North Derbyshire than Yorkshire Dales but I found this link a while ago, some nice links to routemaps and descriptors:

Should be able to point you at some nice roads. You cant really go wrong tbh. North Yorkshire is Gods Own County as the locals will deservedly tell you.

Hawes is pretty much the centre of the dales - main street has several pubs full of bikers drinking cokes for their lunch. I think the Wensleydale Creamery is near here with free cheese tasting.
Malham is one of my favourite places on Earth, an hour or two's walk (depending which way you walk) to the Limestone Pvement.
Black Sheep Brewery in Masham for lunch (they do tours too) - it should be a crime to skip this. Lots of different red meats cooked in various ales - might need to skip breakfast that day.
Ripon isnt a bad town. Newby Hall has(d) a car show if your timing is right.
I quite like the James Herriot Museum (although its a little low key) in Thirsk.
Out to the coast, Bridlington and Scarborough are typical UK seaside towns, but I've always liked Whitby (if its the Goths Festival it will be rammed though). Pick up a fish & chips and some Whitby Jet.
And the roads between and around there are all pretty much great Zedding Roads.

You cant really go wrong - weather dependant - enjoy !

Hi mate. I stayed in the Crown Hotel, Lofthouse for a couple of nights. Only 5 rooms but superb food. Followed my Brother-in-law and Sister on these routes if that helps?

Some decent routes and places in your link AleNod

Love that part of the world and often get up there to experience it :)

Settle to Hawes via Ribblehead is a great drive, Settle is a nice town in itself. From Hawes up to Thwaite via Buttertubs.
The creamery in Hawes is worth a visit, especially if you like cheese, or Wallace and Gromit. Free cheese tasting is good, as much as you like.
Again Masham with the Brewery tours is a nice way to spend an afternoon, to road to there from either Hawes or Thwaite is good too.
Aysgarth is another place worth the visit, the Falls are good - featured in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.
If you venture over the A1 to the Moors, Helemsley( ice cream parlour excellent ) , Hutton Le hole, Rosedale are some good places to visit. Chimney Bank is a lovely drive - Rosedale to the 'Hole can be done either way. Cant go wrong with eating at the White Horse Farm Inn in Rosedale, just be aware of the car park entrance - take it slow. The views are great though.

All roads are good for fun driving, often quiet, just watch out for camera vans around Ribbledale area.

If ya need any more help just shout .

That’s on my bucket list now @Toby

Lofthouse is nice as Andy Says, nip up to Scar House Reservoir for views walk round J.S. Porter has the house other side of it - dont bother her for drinks though, shes not too friendly at times ;) Pateley Bridge is another nice town, Brimham Rocks close by and The Coldstone Cut - check out a working quarry.
Not a fan of Grassington but do like Malham as mentioned, both Malham Cove and Tarn are reasonable if you like a bit of walking.
Another route that gets over looked, if your over that way is Reeth to Leyburn via Whipperdale Bank - I often head that way if I've been to Thwaite and heading to Masham, the whole run is good really.
But you cant go far wrong where ever you go, just point the bonnet and drive, easy enough to get back to most areas. Yuo could check out Ilkley too - spa town and has a Bettys :)
If along the coast, and near Whitby head up to Staithes , or south to Robin Hoods Bay, both are like stepping back some decades traditional old fishing villages where the 20th century might just roll in. Everyone heads to Goathland - Heartbeat Country, again if thats your thing. Possibly check out Eden Camp near Malton for a little difference.

Thats your 2nd week covered :) but will give you some things to think about.

There’s a village called Dent that’s really pretty with a nice tea room that’s worth a visit.

Greetings from the North Yorkshire Dales.
Pately Bridge up to the Cathederal City of Ripon and onwards to Masham, Leyburn, Hawes. To be honest anywhere the bonnet takes you is a beautiful drive. Just be mindful of the two wheeled pedalists.

Sounds like if you turn either way from the place you stay you will have a good days driving.....Thanks everyone. Now we just need to be released 🤦‍♂️
