Me and Sara decided to spend some time around the lakes as it seemed a fair way to travel for Andy's cruise so thought we'd make a week of it.
Always wanted visit this area and neither of us had been there.
We stayed in Penrith Tuesday to Thursday and what a lovely place that is,well worth a visit and a good base point to travel around the lakes area.
Our first of many visits to lake Windermere,on the drive to hotel
A wellcome break from the seemingly endless M6. We exited at junction 36 to be able to see some of sights on the way to Penrith.
On Wednesday we had a better drive around lake Windermere and Sara did us some soup by the lake
from there we had a ride around that area with no particular plan
Thursday
We did the Haverthwaite steam train ride to lakeside
Where we then got on the boat to Bowness......
You get to see some fantastic sights this way.....
The guy who owned this little place apparently made his money in the 1930's from the slave trade. They would be chained up in the cellar until sold, poor blighters.
We had to have a go on this......
The ferry across Windermere
See @jue1 you could even take your horse on there...
Friday
Visited lake Buttermere and drove Honister pass, just fabulous
we broke out the cooking device again....
For some late breakfast..
This little set up was a good investment, one burner cooker £10,mini fold out table £10 and 2 folding chairs £10 a pair. We used it 5 times so saved us a bit of cash on eating out.
We did quite a bit and covered over 900 miles including doing Andy's cruise so lost track a bit, some other pics can't remember on what day and all that.
This was a lovely little place we stumbled upon with a nice little pull in spot and pic nic table
And the rest has been well covered with the cruise on the Saturday.
We both had a fantastic week and I lost count of the amount of times I said wow, awesome, breath taking,beautiful,gorgeous........i wish we lived here . These roads were made for zeds, just fantastic.....i could go on,but I've board you enough .
Steve and Sara.
