...I'm just wary of others' experience, as the original looks perfect on my 4k laptop screen, but I imagine it could be massive on other users' screen.

Only when the site goes mobile responsive (but they are hidden by default on mobile width anyway). So that leaves us with how they look on a large screen, which is way too big. So won't affect me on my mobile, but will on everything else. It's why we have the restriction in the first place.
