I noticed yesterday on key on, my temp went straight to red zone flashed the light briefly then fell back gradually to cold and rose as operating temperature was reached, made me a bit nervous initially as it has never worked this way before.. Any clues gentlemen ?..

Update :
As soon as I investigated the issue, it stopped doing it. So I am none the wiser, maybe the old girl was just a bit cranky at the lack of attention lately...

Now It did it again this morning, on a dead cold engine , pegged to the right and stayed there. I killed the engine although it could not possibly been overheating obviously and restarted, this time pegged to the right again but gradually fell back, engine still cold. I,m suspected coolant temp sensor, where is it on the M52 TU as I guess it could be just a connection issue. Any help , anyone ???.

Sounds like a bad connection somewhere, usually if the temp wire is grounded at the sender unit the guage will swing over to the right of the guage same as the fuel guage would with the sender wire grounded. Clean the connections if that dosn't solve it change the sender unit may have an internal fault.

A good friend of mine rang to tell me the red zed he was expecting has just arrived in stock, a few weeks too late for me, he told me his had exactly the same issue and his mechanic was sorting. Will let you know when he tells me what was wrong, agreed to go and have a look anyway.

His main business is body work and paint, which is to an incredibly high standard, he is going to give me a quote for touch up on SKOFLY but I want to keep it original and probably can’t afford it anyway!

I'm still at a loss as to where the sender is on the M52TU, no doubt it's in a place where an extra elbow half way down your forearm would be handy. =))
