That's mad if they cant supply them. Using the old straps as templates it wouldn't take much to make some copys, could always do that with some steel and heat.

I would get them made where I'm working now but I'm about to leave the nuclear industry for an adventure in Oil & Gas :D

Looking at the strap, its not simply a piece of sheet steel, its a pressing, designed so that it has strength in its shape, and wont deform under the pressure of a full tank. If BMW are looking into restocking, then its the best course I think. On Ebay.com, US site I see there are lots of straps for other BMW models of the era for sale, just not Z3. Looking at the pics they all seem to use the same format of a hook and bolt, and are more than likely by the same supplier, so continuous supply shouldn't be a problem!
