Tailpipe alignment

Decided to start off new thread following on from Davejue1 'a spacer thread:

The spacers are looking good Dave.

A question re the tailpipes and the bumper- mine are similar sized so when they are mounted up like yours they knock against the bumper cutout.

I'm looking at Powerflex exhaust hangers rubbers to limit movement but think I'll need to get the cutout widened for my pipes to sit just right as some movement is needed.

I'm just wondering what you've done as your sit quite nicely in the standard cutout.

Mine are little wonky at the moment whilst I test out different adjustments...also trying to eliminate the small knock where the bigger exhaust pipe fouls the subframe slightly- means lowering the rear box but then doesn't look so neat..maybe a trip to the exhaust shop is needed..

My cut has been widened Dino so there I think will be your problem. T-tony is a fitter, I know he does mot and springs etc so assume he'll do exhausts to. He'll be along later I'm sure so may be able to help better than I where adjustment needs to be made. On a plus side, your car looks just like mine which is very very very good!!!!

When I had an Eisenmann backbox with twin 76mm pipes they sat in the cut out perfectly without any adjustment needed. I think I cut a small section out underneath as it was touching slightly. Certainly no need to widen the bumper hole.

Do you know what size your tips are? I want to switch from the oval to dual duals which are functional and there is such a wide variety of tips available. I like @GazHyde s tips for proportion. JIM

My pipes do fit in the cut out (just) but when you move it side to side by hand they touch the bumper cutout on the sides.
No damage is being done but I think it makes slight noise sometimes when maneuvering hence stiffening the mounts and/or making the cutout wider.
Yours look just as close to the edge Dave, wondering if they also touch or perhaps your backbox is mounted stiffer.
They could also touch and not really make a noise that is noticeable...

Certainly seems that way...
IIRC on the facelift they fitted bigger pipes as standard instead of the Pea Shooters the pre facelift 6 originally had.

I clean them with autosol and a cloth and when I wrap the cloth round and clean them there is no movement to speak of. There is a cut out in the exhaust recess, not done by me and they tailpipes do fill the gap. There's around 3mm either side to spare.

As long as the cut out is big enough, maybe worth looking at powerflex exhaust hangers If there it too much play and also using grommets to prevent the hangers slipping.

Just took a measure and my gap is 6 1/2" on the pre facelift bumper. Has anyone figured out how to run a second pipe off the back box to run dual duals?? Finally got to see @Kit pic and looks like the facelift is an inch wider. JIM

The gap in the 2.8 pre facelift is 17,5cm

Put in some Powerflex mounts and sitting better now but need to get rusty nuts removed so I can fully adjust the side that is sitting a bit low..

I used these: 2 for my rear Supersprint box. As I wasn't sure of the height I wanted these give you a choice and then I just trimmed off the excel I didn't need:
