They were there last night, gone this morning.

I thought the exhaust had blown, had a look this morning.

Easy fix ? , ideas or recommendations please.

The silver spot in the box pipe is like a rivet. With all the black residue would suggest its been loose a while.
No sign of welding ?

Dunno.

The only logical solution is a full cat back system (plus custom headers and air intake to match).

Oh and a fast road cams and a remap to tie it all together.

Easy fix.

Having checked again, the rear box has multiple screw points and rivet type thingy is in fact a screw, the second on the other side is long gone
and sooted (SP) up.
Thinking big square single tip

I've never seem a standard rear box where the tailpipe isn't an integral, welded in, part of the box. Has it been bodged by a previous owner?

Its either time for a new back box or you need a tame mate with a mig welder to repair. I'd check the rest of the box for rot as it may be end of life.

You should look for corrosion at the edges of the muffler, where the parts are assembled. You can try to punch it with a screw driver, like they do on the MOT. If it's strong , you can weld a pipe, it will be cheaper than a new exhaust, because they come together.

Great time for an upgrade. See if you can find a local exhaust specialist. We have one round here that custom make back boxes or the full thing if you like. I had an mx5 that had the back box baffles collapse, they were cheaper than any aftermarket back box and came with a lifetime guarantee. I got to pick my tailpipe and how loud it was too :). The one for the MX5 cost me £160 fitted.

Unfortunately my Z3 already has stainless exhaust otherwise I would have been straight over to them.
