This week we took in a facelift 2.2 in stunning Estoril Blue, one of the most striking Z3 colours.
This Zed I’ve noticed over the years being very low on the rear, almost like it’s about to pop a wheelie, so our priority was to get the rear end sorted with some other little upgrades.
First thing to do is get her into position for lifting up.
Once in the air and the arch liners out you can see how tired those beam bushes really are.
That gap at the top should be the same size at the bottom.
Already sporting some nice Bilstein shocks.
Now we enter full disassembly mode.
The exhausts on the facelift models are normally a one piece system with the front flange being in a poor state, because of this we don’t touch it and remove the subframe with the exhaust still in place.
Disconnecting both drive shafts is required.
prop nuts removed using the double spanner method.
and here’s those pesky M6 cap head bolts. I haven’t had one round for a long time and today was a pain because one did. Out came the angle grinder to remove the head.
On removal of the handbrake cables it’s safe to say Dave got his moneys worth here.
now you can see both swing arms removed.
Later in the week I’ll begin the transfer over of drive shafts, brake mechanisms and lines. This is what takes longer than the removal.
Diff was looking a little crispy. Nothing we can’t sort. I say crispy because @davesport2.2 is still having Counciling from the word crusty.
Diff bush is now removed. Didn’t give us much of a fight at all.
now we begin the rebuild of the new shinny bits. Fresh arms and new bearings with shields.
This concludes today’s play time. I’ll do a few updates during the week to keep myself out of trouble.
