During the last week Stacey (@BMBabe) bought Sunny over for a visit and some well needed TLC, Stacey bought sunny knowing she was going to be a project and kicked things off with a new vanos fitted by Mr Vanos so the engine has been future proofed.

@Mnbrennan took sunny for a drive and still found she lacked power and very unstable so Sunny had an inspection by a local Bm specialist and showed up some interesting things. First one being the wishbones, One was an M wishbone and the other was a standard Z3 wishbone. This poses a slight issue because the M's run more camber on the front. First up was changing both wishbones. While under the front we also noticed non Z3M spec'ed front discs. Also the clip on the caliper was not man enough which in time will cause uneven pad wear, looked like a rear.

Finally removed after some serious club hammer action.

Standard wishbone left and M right.

Martin attacking the offside wishbone.

Sunny also had some fresh rear wishbone bushes but these needed to be pressed in, luckily we have a 12 ton press to hand.

Pressed in with ease

Shinny Z3M wheel next to a next rear beam waiting to be overhauled.

Another little job on sunny was fitting a genuine bonnet badge, guess which one is which :)

We found the issue with the lack of power, the plenum intake hose was not attached properly so large amounts of unmetered air was entering the engine. You can see where it had kinked inwards.

So in all it was a good half day looking over sunny. Martin got up close and personal and left with a shopping list for the next bits. We checked over the rear and spotted a few things that needed doing sooner rather than later.

Rear Shocks - Both leaking
Rear discs / Pads totalled
Rear beam bushes well past it.
Diff bushe needs replacing
Front calliper clips

Good detective work, should make Stacey very happy.

Cheers mate, Just updated the thread a bit. I've got a habit of making it live before proof reading.

Good work you lot:) as usual very impressed  and Lee and at 1.45 you should be fast asleep=))

Awesome work. Shopping list can be expensive but each and every part will be worth it

Excellent write up mate. Looks like sunny has certainly lacked in the maintenance department of late. Be a another cracking zed when you've done with it.

Great job fellas as ever, Stacey will be over the moon. I recon you lot should start videoing the rebuilds we could have our own show then, lets see, hows "Zed SOS" sound :D.
(You'll need a good "bleep" machine though)

Another zed that will last a few more years and hopefully appreciate in value. Great job done yet again.:thumbsup:

What fantastic work your doing :p
Well done :)

Great job guys, as always. Good to see Sunny being spoilt:thumbsup:

Great work again guys, I find it shocking that the previous owner of such a great car would use the wrong replacement parts.

///M tax means that the correct parts are generally more expensive. Simple economics to tight fisted owners...

That's the reason for the short cuts you can see though Gaz, and possibly some you might not too. Great work all the same, Stacey will be well chuffed I'm sure. Well done guys.

Tony.

Yep was a good day in the # shed, Lee had the tough side first but then mine became the tough one. That standard Z3 arm did not want to come off!

Also good to see the rear in more detail. Needs alignment now, @BMBabe had to drive back with the steering wheel half cocked hahaha

Good work guys. All Zeds need work to keep them on the road and with this in mind Stacy's still got the best value ///M in recent years. Even with what's been spent so far Sunny is still 50% off the usual ///M price

This project is great
Seeing it come together and my friends working on her makes it even more special
To get her mechanically sorted will still be cheaper than the cheapest Z3///M up for sale
In years to come I would love the paint work sorted but for now I will enjoy the project and enjoy driving her

Yet another Zed being saved by the Zed Shed... Got to love the banter and humour that happens in this small workshop.

I know how you feel Stacy with my run of bad luck but have a rebuilt engine with all new bits for the most part that should last for years but my body work has suffered for it but the mechanicals first to enjoy it. It can be a bit frustrating at times not having the sources and time to have it all now but I suppose that's the key word project:thumbsup:
