Thanks :) I think I shall pass for now on that one, if I fail to manage to clean up the metal fully though it seems like a good alternative!
 
I got this cheapy one on Ebay for next to nothing...think it was around £30 delivered new. Not exactly top spec but its a bit of bling :)

Don't need to be top spec, those top mounts take a hellova lot of stress so even if you took the middle section out the ends will still help strengthen that area just the same as strut top reinforcement plates.(only really needed for spirited driving especially on some of our crap British potholed roads). :facepalm:

@Coffee331 yes they are out there for the six cyl models but I can't find one for under a hundred for a 1.9 z3. Very frustrating!! Looks okay by the way, JIM
