Hello, Has anybody got any experience with these stone guards ? Do they actually help or do they become a problem with the paintwork below ? I was looking at these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z3-St...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a79c51493 What does anybody think ? Worth the money ?
I got some off the forum member here. It wasn't until I had the car professionally polished that I notice about 500 small stone chips on my car in the affected area! I have only had them for about 2 weeks and found them very good, easy to remove but do not fall off and they look sporty as well. Many forum members have these. Get them from Ian here: https://zroadster.org/pages/bmw-z3-magnetic-stone-guards/
Thank you for that.. I think I need to order a pair before all the roads get a winter coating of loose stones over wet tar !! I wonder how many people claim against the highways authorities for damage to vehicles on loose stones.
They are good but a littel advice would be to make sure the bodywork is spotlessly clean and a layer of wax applied too before applying them. Also when it comes to washing the car carefully peel them off first and wash them seperatly before refitting them as dust does tend to creep under the edges.
I find it funny when you take them off when the car is filthy that there is the outline of the stone guard left around a perfectly clean section of paint work. When you wash the car the wax underneath is completely undisturbed. They really do make an effective tight seal against the paint. Ian's wise words are just that.
I believe that a front protection will be more important for chips than the rear fender; I have more stone chips on the bonet and bumper comparing with the zones protected by these ....... But they look good on the car!
