Stone Chipping

Afternoon everyone....hope you've all had a great Christmas so far!!.... question to ask, I'm intending leaving all my mechanicals (rear beam, Trailing Arms, Anti Roll Bar, Diff etc) in Black Hammerite smooth. Has anyone had any issues with stone chips or is it pretty robust? I've seen articles where some people have put on some form of rubber coating to protect the Trailing arms?... cheers all....

Hammerite does stand up really well Matt.
Simply because I have a big 5l tub of it though, I’ll be doing the undersurface of mine with a coat of bitumen paint after it gets a mot. Takes a while to fully dry so I don’t want the tester covered in any whilst checking everything.
Both arms got 50cc of hot waxoyl and the beam waxoyl’d internally.

Cheers Iain..... yep all my "undercarriage" has two coats of Hammerite Red oxide and at least two if not three coats of black.. I did read that Hammerite takes about a month to fully go off, so all my parts will be well and truly hardened by the time they go back on the car. I haven't waxoyled the arms or beam yet so I must get round to doing that. I know there's no pin holes as when I took the bungs off the arms, it was like opening a can of coke

The bungs from that sort of thing always spurt out some of the contents. . Unless there’s a hole somewhere, so it’s a good way of checking.
I do prefer Hammerite to powdercoat myself, I’ve never found anything tracking under it.
