Hi and welcome from Surrey. Sounds like a good trip and the 3.0 Z is excellent for it. I have been to Italy twice and Switzerland 3times and thoroughly enjoyed every trip. We are off to Holland France Switzerland and Austria in about 4 weeks.
One of the first things you need for diagnosing problems is a code reader, I have the C110 easily available from Amazon and other places.
The ABS light may be a wheel sensor but could be the control unit this happened on my E46.

Recommend travelling via the Grand Ballon in France very scenic and excellent driving roads. Also the Ibis in Epinal is a good place to stop and only around £65. Also depends where in Italy you are travelling to

Hi @Stevieb, to the forum from me too in Staffordshire. Just bought a 3.0 to join the 2.2 we've had for over 6 years. We will be taking her to Italy later in the year. We like to do lots of planning for our trips, it's nearly as much fun as doing the trip itself.
