Had an oil leak on the right hand side bottom of the engine, cleaned it up and replaced the oil pump gasket. Still have a leak. Checked the oil pump gasket and no signs of leaking around there. Everything up top is dry as a bone. Apparently it has had the oil sump gasket replaced and the rocker cover as the previous owner couldn't get to the bottom of the oil leak either. Car is not being driven and leaking whilst sat in the garage

Any ideas?

If its leaking while standing I would suspect a cracked sump maybe? Do you have pictures of where it's dripping from?

Tony.

Its so grubby under the bottom no way I could tell, will clean it up tomo and take a look. I have a feeling it might be sump gasket - at least hoping so however would not be looking forward to doing that job.

One of the best ways to clean something like that is aerosols of brake/clutch cleaner unless you have a pump up sprayer. Clean as high up as you can as the oil can only be leaking from below the oil level in the sump if it leaks while stood.

Cheers Tony did that this morning and discovered the hose leaking from the power steering pump. I think with that and the OFHG leaking I never saw the hose leaking as it was caked in crud. Cleaned off, new clip and all sorted. Big sigh of relief!

Those pipes tend to rot out on their ends, had it do that on my 1.9, replaced with BMW part as it was a moulded shaped pipe so a length of straight pipe wouldn't have done with the bend involved.
