steering wheel noise/issue

Has a strange thing the other day that my steering wheel seemed very slightly stuck, as if something was in the way. Sorted itself no issue.
Today though just had some noise, rubbing type, (not squeak) coming from steering wheel column and a very very slight rubbing feel. Again was intermittent

Any ideas?

Sounds like the slip ring playing up; has the steering wheel been removed recently?

No never by me anyway.
Could this be something that needs urgent attention?

Having trawled google I found a reply on another forum in history from @Mike Fishwick about this and made me remember I moved the steering wheel surround a while back for some reason when I was driving, seemed loose so just pushed it a bit. Been out in it today and do think its the surround- will investigate. hopefully its that not the other!
