just been having a read through some diagnostics software, and i came across a section concerning the coding of new components, for new models of BMW you will now have to code a new battery
wtf.
Luckily we have a great independent here who is sensible, but his code reader doesn't read everything.

I was offered the same when I bought a new Hyundai Tucson last month, £499 for the privilege, thanks but no thanks.I think most manufacturers do this sort of thing now.
My 2014 Tiguan had to have something done to the headlights recently, apparently they needed coding as well.
Makes me wonder how expensive the modern cars are going to be to keep served/repaired in years to come.
My local VW stealer charge £90 just to plug the machine in nowadays just to give you a fault code.

And whilst we're on this subject I have a rant.
Bought my Tiguan new, paid an extra £199 for three years servicing.
Good deal I thought, except I'm now told that it doesn't include all routine servicing, they want £79 for an aircon service.
The salesman said "all routine servicing included"
Think I might write them a letter.

You must have received a written agreement at the time laying out the facts! Give it a look over, they may be screwing with you., JIMI think most manufacturers do this sort of thing now.

well there would be a way around it and that is to hack the software and write out rubbish like that.
To be honest I've never placed that much store in "main dealer" history as quite often it is just over priced minimalist servicing which is fine on a young car. But they tend to show their weakness when it comes to older, higher mileage vehicles that are running at the fringes of the tolerances that need, shall we say, a bit of old fashioned skill, not just a timed oil change and codes cleared.
