Other than 'BMW' any decent ones ? The one on my 2.2i E85 seems to have died.

Would have said Bosch but for a third of the price RTX £48 from car parts 4 less. At that price even if it only lasts a couple of years its a good price.

Stick with known brands and you can't really go wrong. Lucas, Bosch etc

RTX Starter from Carparts4less, web only sister site of Europarts, fitted one to my 2.5 when it failed, no warning of it failing, a coupkle of blows with a hammer did shock it into life but after a few test starts it packed up completly. The RTX replacement was easy to fit and has been fine over the past year. Disconnect the battery, two bolts at the rear of the unit undone with a spanner and its out, replacement put in in reverse order.

Hi @colb, Looks a bit awkward to get at on my 2.2i Z4. Did you have to remove the inlet manifold? I presume you are talking about a 2.5 E85 which I think is pretty much the same as my 2.2. Ken.

Well, now recovered from a bad chest infection following a course of antibiotics, I got to have a look at the zed last week. Got a chap from my local garage to 'plug in' and turns out it was the ignition switch not the starter motor, which had not responded to me bashing it with a hammer! So new switch fitted and back in business. 😊

Glad you got it sorted, perhaps we should have advised checking that 12v was getting to the starter using a voltmeter when the key was turned to start before condeming the starter motor. Test meter or bulb connected to the solenoid + with key turned to start position would have led you to the duff switch. The switch is a known fail on the Z4 but easy enough to change, lower steering shroud off and one small screw holds the switch onto the end of the ignition barrel. Must admit I hold a used spare in my parts stash just in case.
